Som Tum (Papaya Salad)

Shredded unripe papaya, bird’s eye chillies, herbs, vegetables, and for that extra kick, fermented fish or crab. These are the ingredients that make up the well-known Thai papaya salad. Originating from Laos and most prevalent in the north-eastern Isaan region of Thailand, this dish has spread throughout Thailand and across continents. A traditional dish so famous that it can be found in every Thai restaurant.

For Thai people this is our comfort food, it is sold on every street corner and every mall or shopping centre food hall. This is a side dish that perfectly compliments sticky rice, fried chicken, or grilled pork. There are several variations of this popular dish available throughout Thailand, but the main flavour stays the same - a refreshing spice, with hints of sweet and sour which revives the energy within you.

This refreshingly spicy dish goes especially well with the hot weather and can be enjoyed at Limehouse Thai.
