Goong Pao (Grilled King Prawn)
Originating from the central province of Ayutthaya, Goong Pao (literally translated as burning king prawns), is a much loved simple “comfort food” for Thai people, usually enjoyed with an exquisite seafood sauce. The sauce perfectly compliments the smoky flavour of the grilled prawns, hence why you will find variations of the sauce depending on the region, but the taste always boils down to a mixture of spicy, sour and sweet.
This dish is best eaten with your bare hands, peeling off the harder outer shell and head to reveal the juicy and tender meat of the king prawns. The meat is then dipped into the zingy seafood sauce and eaten - a simple dish, yet full of flavour and character.
Luckily you won’t have to travel all the way to Thailand to sample this dish, our chefs can replicate this amazing dish here at Limehouse Thai. Our grilled tiger prawns served with our unique blend of seafood sauce is reminiscent of a beach side meal amidst the Thai sunset.
